Hospital renovations sets new patient care standards

Mercy Medical Center is a forward-looking hospital unique in the region for its range of new benefits and technologies. The $57 million project, done in conjunction with Hammes Company, includes a 234,000 square-foot patient tower addition connecting with the existing facility at one level. Entry into the addition is through a six-story atrium, broken into two volumes. The three-story lower volume incorporates a conference center and three hundred-seat auditorium, classrooms, a neuroscience center, thirty-two-bed ICU, and CT/SICU departments. The upper three-story volume is the women’s center with ten antepartum rooms, fifteen LDRs, forty postpartum rooms, and a forty-bed private room NICU department. A $12.3 million renovation and modernization of the 50,000 square-foot surgery department includes twelve existing and six new ORs, and redesign of the pre-op and phase I and II recovery departments. The complete project was finished in May 2008.
