Over the course of 2009 and 2010 Davis Partnership Architects worked with National Jewish to develop master planning concepts for the realization of their strategic visioning. NJH identified their long range goals for the next 25 years, Davis was tasked with translating a long list of desired programs and facilities into a campus plan that could accommodate all of the new facilities while upgrading the existing campus and identifying a strategy for land acquisition. The vision included expansion for 250 new faculty members, 100,000 sf of new laboratory and support space, 100,000 sf of new outpatient care space, additional administration space, expanded animal research and housing, radiation oncology and infusion center, expanded procedure and cardiology departments, a centralized outpatient clinical research unit, a new central campus data center, under street connectivity for circulation between new and existing campus buildings, a 100-bed hospital with expansion ability, staff and visitor parking structures, education and conference center facilities, a fitness/wellness center for staff and patients and the infrastructure and utility plant to serve the new construction. Concept studies resulted in a master plan that identified redevelopment on the existing campus and expansion to the east with acquisition of available land at an abandoned Denver Public Schools site. The existing campus housed a new clinic and research building, The National Institute for Lung Health, for the clinical research lab, animal housing and research facilities and a cornerstone education and conference center. New development would occur across Colorado Boulevard on existing and newly acquired parcels for a new state of the art specialty inpatient Hospital and outpatient healthcare facility. Future work would replace outdated facilities with a new Administration and Faculty building connecting to a new Parking Structure.
