City and County of Broomfield Community Center

Recreation gives focus to the thriving senior population of the area at the new City and County of Broomfield Community Center

What began in 2015 as a master plan for a multi-phased expansion and renovation of an aging municipal community center evolved into a full replacement of the existing facility.

The new City and County of Broomfield Community Center offers nearly three times the square footage as the existing facility, greatly expanding all aspects of its recreation and senior program and services. A natatorium containing four pools, including a cold-water competition pool with elevated seating for 100 spectators is a key feature of the recreation center while the senior center offers spaces and amenities organized around a central living room style pre-function area.

Mindful of Broomfield’s active senior population and a measure of dependence of a robust ‘Meals on Wheels’ program operating out of the existing facility, the City mandated that half of the original facility containing the senior center was to remain operational until the new replacement facility was completed. This constraint was a primary form determinant of a new facility that pushes the limits of site boundaries and natural features including a historic drainage ditch, open space and a reservoir.
