Key to the success of ecclesiastical architecture is the design’s ability to support the particular theology and philosophy of that congregation. The mission of The New Church of Boulder Valley is to bring the teachings of the Bible and theological writings of Emanuel Swedenborg into the minds, hearts, and lives of people through worship, education, spiritual growth, and friendship. Central to the concepts and beliefs is the idea of correspondence between nature and spiritual forces, making spiritual concepts more tangible and easily understood. In this context, the juxtaposition of light, water, rock, and trees hold a specific meaning — “all of nature is a theatre to find the divine.” Davis Partnership deftly incorporated these key concepts into the design of the New Church’s first facility in the State of Colorado.
